Championnat de Bretagne de Football Gaélique - reprise à Vannes le 7 février 2009


Après une première journée à Nantes qui devait se tenir le 13 décembre et qui a du être reportée pour des raisons climatiques, la nouvelle édition du Championnat de Bretagne de Football Gaélique s'ouvre enfin, le samedi 7 février à Vannes, lors d'un tournoi qui se déroulera au stade du Foso, de 13h à 18h30 et se poursuivra par une soirée au pub O'Flaherty.

Les 6 clubs Bretons engagés cette saison sont impatients d'entamer cette nouvelle édition, qui sera plus disputée que jamais et L'Entente Gaélique de Haute Bretagne de Liffré, aura fort à faire pour garder son titre face aux challengers habituels de Brest, Nantes et Rennes, mais aussi face aux nouveaux venus, Vannes et Saint-Quay-Perros, qui entendent bien défendre leurs chances pour cette première participation.

Pour le Gwened Vannes Football Gaélique, club lancé il y a seulement quelques mois et qui réunit déjà un solide groupe de passionnés, c'est un deuxième événement important à organiser, après l'accueil très réussi d'une formation d'entraîneurs au mois de novembre dernier.

Un championnat festif, placé sous le signe de la Saint Patrick et de la Saint Yves

Les différentes journées de championnat se déroulent sous la forme de tournois, accueillis par chacun des clubs et qui réunissent toutes les équipes. A l'issue de chaque journée, un nombre de points est attribué à chaque équipe, en fonction du classement du tournoi. Et naturellement, celui qui a le plus de points à la fin du championnat remporte le titre de Champion de Bretagne.

Ces journées sont également des moments festifs partagés par les joueurs et ceux qui apprécient ce sport original, mais aussi des occasions uniques de découverte et d'initiation, ouvertes à toutes et tous.

Enfin, alors que le monde du football gaélique Breton fêtera ensemble la Saint Patrick, à l'occasion du tournoi de Brest du 14 mars, c'est lors du tournoi final de Liffré, organisé le 16 mai 2009 par le champion en titre, que sera remis le nouveau trophée du championnat dans le cadre de la Fest'Yves / Gouel Erwann.

Breton Gaelic Football Championship – Kick off in Vannes on February 7th 2009

After a first leg scheduled in Nantes on December 13th 2008 but postponed due to bad weather conditions, the new season of the Breton Gaelic Football Championship finally starts this Saturday, the 7th of February, in Vannes. The tournament will be held in the Foso stadium, from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (local time, GMT +1) and the post-tournament party will follow in the O'Flaherty pub.

The six Breton clubs have long been waiting for this 2008-2009 championship to begin, and from the early looks, this season promises to be the most competitive ever. The Entente Gaélique de Haute Bretagne, based in the city of Liffré, will face fierce competition from its usual challengers Brest, Nantes and Rennes to keep their league title. Though newcomers Vannes and St. Quay-Perros also look forward to impress the original four teams on the pitch in their first season ever.

This leg's host, the Gwened Vannes Football Gaélique club, has only existed for the past few monthes. Though it already counts on a close group of enthusiasts, that has already managed to successfully organize a GAA coaching session in November 2008.

An entertaining championship, placed under the sign of St. Patrick and St. Yves

Each of the championship legs consists in a round robin tournament between the six Breton teams, held successively by each one of the Breton clubs. At the end of each leg, a number of points is awarded to each team, based on their ranking of the day. Of course, at the end of the season, the team with the highest point total is crowned the new Brittany Champion.

These tournament days are also entertaining and partying occasions shared between all the players that love the unique sport of Gaelic Football. They are also a mean to promote the sport to the public, thanks to initiation sessions open to anybody.

Finally, while the Breton Gaelic Football world will be gathered for St. Patrick day and the Brest tournament on March 14th, St. Yves day (equivalent of St. Patrick in Brittany) will see the new Brittany Champion awarded the brand-new trophy after the Liffré tournament, held by the reigning team on May 16th.
